Forest cemetery
The, in 1914 inaugurated Schaffhausen forest cemetery, is a special place for peace and contemplation. According to the model of Munich’s forest cemetery, the Munich councillor for building and construction, Grässel, designed the site in a part of the Rheinhard forest. Harmoniously bedded in the existing beech grove, in an area of about 17 ha, there are various burial grounds, family graves and all kinds of works of art. The area around the entrance is characterised by the striking funeral service hall with crematorium. Noteworthy is the urn recess site, as well as the gravesite in honour of the victims of the bombings in 1944. Waldfriedhof has been given the award of one of the 40 most beautiful parks in Switzerland.
