Munot
Munot – Schaffhausen’s landmark, has proudly been overlooking the town for over 400 years.The Munot Fortress was built in the 16th century by the inhabitants of Schaffhausen (enforced labour) and characterises the cityscape to this day. The town's landmark attracts both tourists and locals and hosts open-air movies, children's festivals, dance events and a wide range of other events.
The Munot Bell
The Munot keeper lives in a flat in the tower and rings the famous Munot bell by hand at 9 p.m. every evening. Since 26th August 2002 the bell on the tower is rung by hand at 9 p.m. for 5 minutes by the Munot keeper – the same way it has been done since 1589.
