In Switzerland, a vignette is compulsory on national roads (motorways and roads with green signs). This costs CHF 40.00 (valid for the calendar year) and is available at post offices, most petrol stations and garages, TCS offices and road traffic offices. Near the border, the vignettes are also available at motorway petrol stations. You can find more information here.
If you are driving on the A81, the vignette obligation applies from the D/CH border in Thayngen.

In the extended old town area, there are around 1,000 public, pay-and-display parking spaces available, not including the private car parks. Parking times are limited, usually to a maximum of two hours. Look for the relevant information on each parking ticket machine. You will find daily or weekly parking spaces within a few minutes' walk of the Old Town (e.g. Mühlentalsträsschen car park, Viehmarkt or Munot).
